Tours will pick-up at Visitor’s Center in Midtown: Arrival time 9:00 AM at the New York Visitors and Convention Bureau, located on 810 7th Avenue (and 52nd Street), Manhattan. 10:00 AM sharp departure from Midtown Manhattan, 3:00 PM return.

Bike tour of our waterfront ends on Randall’s Island with canoe paddling introduction tour.

Join South Bronx Unite! for a FREE unique tour of the South Bronx and Randall’s Is-land. The ride will promote environmental awareness through site visits to the water-front, community gardens, public artwork and historic places, as well as power plants and waste transfer facilities that pollute our rivers’ shores. We will see the proposed site for Fresh Direct that we are working to stop!

We were excited when Capitan the superintendent of the building next door and member of Friends of Brook Park pointed out a small friend in the garden!

As the scientific name implies, Gray treefrogs are variable in color owing to their ability to camouflage themselves from gray to green, depending on the substrate they are sitting on. The degree of mottling varies. They can change from nearly black to nearly white. They change color at a slower rate than a chameleon. They get to be about two inches long, live mostly in the trees and can withstand below freezing temperatures!

It is the Gray Tree Frog, also known as the North American Tree Frog. See the distribution map here.

We have engaged in 10 trips already this season on the Bronx Kill.  The latest was this past Friday, with the Harlem River Rangers and Highbridge.  All had a great time!  We conduct regular public trips and can arrange for your local school or organization a free excursion. We are also available for hire for out of area organizations and business and groups that have the resources to help subsidize our public programming.

Bronx-wide Public Hearing On Food Stamps!

Time: 6:30-8:30pm

• Do you know what the “Farm/Food Bill” (S. 3240) is and how proposed cuts to it will affect the amount of food stamps, WIC and other food programs you receive?
• A Democratic US Senate Committee already voted to cut food stamps by $4.49 billion. The Republican controlled House of Representatives wants to cut it by $33 billion.
• Public Housing residents would loss at least $90 from their monthly benefits.

 

What do you think can be done about it?

Shouldn’t we fight back and not allow these cuts to go through?

Come to a Public Hearing and voice your opinion and demand that these cuts don’t happen!

THE SOUTH BRONX CSA is a community-driven initiative that brings the people of the community together to build the necessary resources and infrastructure to continue to transform the South Bronx into an accessible and affordable food oasis. Our mission is to create affordable access to locally and organically grown vegetables for everyone in the South Bronx and beyond. Join today!

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is a community-based movement that creates affordable access to healthy foods for city-residents while allowing local farmers to thrive in an environment that is increasingly competitive and unfavorable. Before the growing season, CSA members purchase a share of food from a partnering local farmer, allowing the farmer to focus on farm duties instead of struggling to secure a customer base and competing against large agribusiness. For CSA members that means around 22 weeks of fresh, locally grown, organic vegetables at an affordable price! Our CSA functions thanks to the volunteer efforts of all of our amazing members. In an effort to make healthy foods available to everyone, we offer sliding scale prices based on people’s incomes, accept payment installments, and we have always welcomed SNAP (food stamps) and EBT. Registration is now open!
