| Brook
Park is an important resource for local schools and youth programs in
an area under-served with open space and Nature, and with a high rate
of youth crime.
Our garden serves as an outdoor class-room and environmental education
space for children, adolescents and teens. We host regular Teacher Orientation
days in the Spring and Autumn to welcome educators and inform them of
the possibilities the Park offers.
In addition, we facilitate workshops on a variety of subjects, from preparing
soil, composting and planting to tree, bird and plant identification.
We also arrange for art and cultural activities and the rainbow labyrinth
is used for cooperative, non-competitive passive recreation and attention
span improvement.
We offer the key to the Park for participating teachers to make use of
the space on their own time. Some of the activities that have occurred
in the Park include:
Planting
Drawing
Journal writing
Community service
Labyrinth walking
Banner making
Insect collecting
Tree identification
Architecture and design
Measuring
Free play
And more!
Please contact us if you are a teacher, educator
or youth worker interested in enhancing your curriculum or program with
an outdoor education component. Among many schools and programs we work
with are:

The High School for Social Justice, Freedom Community Center and City
Year, Pueblo en Marcha, Visiting Nurse Services of New York and Families
Reaching In Ever New Directions (FRIENDS).
